The second of Gears of War 3’s downloadable content is upon us and oh boy is it a biggun. Sitting in at an exact 2GB, Raams Shadow brings new single player to our Gears of War desires.

Gears fans and sharp eyed readers may be confused as to why its labelled Raams Shadow, since this juggernaut tower block of a locust general died (albeit stubbornly) back at the climax of Gears 1, so what’s Raam got to do, got to do with it?

These days, about 70% of the Xbox Live community exists on Activisions latest, Call of Duty Black Ops, and if they didn’t like Black Ops, then they’re playing Modern Warfare 2, and if they don’t like that, then they’re on World At War, and if they don’t like THAT then they are still lurking in the corners of Modern Warfares first bout.

So needless to say, when an online only batch of DLC comes out for Rufflian Games more than underwhelming return to Pacific City, Crackdown 2 is going to have a little bit of work on its hands.

So, the beginning of November has brought us the beginning of downloadable content for franchise giant Gears of War 3. With the second batch of downloadable content already announced and on its way, lets take a look at DLC pack one. The Horde Command Centre.

The main focus of this map, being called the Horde Command Centre is non surprisingly, a Command centre available in horde mode. A new form of defensive upgrade, the command centre allows you to call in some aid in the shape of sniper fire to hammer of dawns to clear out those pesky waves. Other upgrades have also appeared on the horde scene with a new decoy which turns your defence into an Onyx guard bot, a new auto turret which will have better use against Berserkers and the Silverback upgrade which lets you fire rockets. These new upgrades are great to use. When you actually get to use them. Unfortunately, your going to have to put in a lot of work to get these, as standard, you’ll need to have maxed out the decoy, turret and silverback in order for you to be able to access the new upgrades, and if you want to get your hands on that command centre, you’ll need to have spent a whole $360,000 on turrets after you’ve purchased the content, meaning anything earned before the downloadable content, isn’t going towards that ultimate defence upgrade. Sigh, it’s a tough job, but we have to get there at some point.

This was first time I added videos made within the game to show case the vehicles (better than me rambling on about it) I had good fun getting some good videos with the cars, unfortunately we werent given any more of the DLC so I could continue this trend!

Downloadable content is something fans have wanted for Codemasters games for a long time. Grid just about managed to deliver some cars at the last minute, but Dirt 1 and 2 fans were left in the lurch with bringing some more life into their favourite of games. Dirt 3 however is set to change this, it’s been announced that on a fortnightly basis content will be released for the Rally/Off road game.

So let’s start with what to expect from the Power and Glory pack. First car up is the Ford Focus, designed on the ST model, this Rallycross only gives you an easy middle man to get into the Rally spirit, its fast and easy to handle making it an easy choice for newcomers when you’re not quite ready to take on the more older series available. Its quite bulky so you can hold your ground when the race gets a little rowdy since lets face it. Rallycross gets a little collision friendly.

Now ill admit, I haven’t played Halo Reach since Black Ops was launched. I enjoyed Reach a lot, but once a new shooter came out, it quickly diverted my interest. Though two games into reviewing this map pack and I had found myself in a Big Slayer Match, which had quickly turned into me fighting for a team three players down due to connection issues. We then 3v6’d our way through five more minutes of game play resulting in me being killed quite often, being enthusiastically tea bagged each and every time. Oh Halo Community. How I’ve missed you.
